Established in 1829, the Swan Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine-growing regions, second in age only to the Hunter Valley, which was established a few years earlier. This flourishing region boasts magnificent wineries, breweries, distilleries, gourmet artisan producers, handcrafted wares, markets, art studios, and myriad eateries. Incredibly, the Swan Valley is the only wine region in the Southern Hemisphere accessible by boat from a capital city, with some fantastic day tours available. The soil is fertile, and fruit and vegetables ripen to perfection in the warm sunshine. Grape varietals flourish in this region, which takes its fresh produce very seriously. Some of the oldest wineries still have strong family lineage, and a new generation is bringing renewed energy to the wine scene.
Just a 30-minute drive from Perth city centre, the Perth Hills are the perfect place to enjoy the abundant flora and fauna of the Darling Scarp. The boutique winemaking scene comprises mostly owner-operators and artisan producers who make award-winning, progressive wines.
The Chittering Valley, dotted with small farms, is especially beautiful in winter, when the hills and valleys turn a vibrant shade of green. The small wineries offer genuine country hospitality. The charming wineries in the Heart of the Hills are scattered around the beautiful walking trails of John Forrest National Park, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing lunch surrounded by nature. Bickley Valley is the place to discover a variety of classic and alternative artisan wines, all of which have won numerous awards. They are located within a 20 km loop. In the historic town of Jarrahdale, Serpentine has popular hiking trails and the stunning Serpentine Falls — a small swimming hole — where you can round off the day with a winery lunch or tasting, just a 50-minute drive from Perth.
Peel is an emerging wine region with around 200 hectares of wine grapes. It is located south and south-east of Perth, beside the regional centre of Mandurah. Stretching from the Indian Ocean to the Perth Hills and Wandering, Peel offers diverse climatic conditions for viticulture and unique nature-based experiences. Most wineries are located within an hour’s drive of Perth’s central business district (CBD), making Peel a popular day-trip destination.

The Ferguson Valley is a great place to find small-batch wineries, spectacular vistas, and creative wine tastings that feel authentic. In Donnybrook, you’ll find some of Geographe’s best emerging wineries, including those producing sought-after Italian varietal wines.
The allure of this pristine coastal region is far-reaching. In less than fifty years, Margaret River has earned a reputation as a world-class wine region, renowned particularly for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. One of Australia’s most desirable culinary travel destinations, the region’s winemakers, chefs and creatives offer a wealth of expertise and deliver unforgettable experiences. The geographically isolated environment is home to some of the oldest soils on Earth. This globally important ecosystem is one of 32 biodiversity hotspots and is home to abundant populations of endemic flora and fauna. The wines are elegant and refined, and the winemakers are strongly committed to expressing the distinct terroir of Margaret River. In pursuit of this, organic viticulture is becoming increasingly popular among wineries of all sizes.

This is one of Australia’s premier cool-climate regions, incorporating the areas of Pemberton and Manjimup. Its artisanal Pinot Noir and sparkling wines are in high demand and are often only available directly from the wineries, so a visit is highly rewarding.
