The basic ingredient of a green vegan smoothie is, of course, a green leafy vegetable. Spinach, lettuce, kale, arugula (rocket), celery, parsley, basil or other vegetables are among the basic ingredients (following the season).
Bananas are another key ingredient to creaminess and sweetness.
Medjool dates are the added value I always try to add to my smoothies for their high nutritional value. As regards liquids, the choice is wide: water, plant based milk, apple juice or orange.
Personally, oat milk and brown rice milk are among my favorites. They go perfectly with any preparation, both sweet and salty. They have a high refreshing and nourishing power, too.
The dried fruit is the most appropriate choice to further enrich vitamins and proteins in your smoothie. You can replace almonds with natural unsalted cashew. Green vegan smoothies must be served immediately, cold but not frozen to keep the benefits of vegetables intact.
Green vegan smoothie: Ingredients
250 ml (9 fl oz) oat milk (or other plant based milk)
50 g (2 oz) fresh, washed arugula/rocket
5 romaine lettuce leaves
2 ripe bananas
1 tsp whole unsalted almonds
2 Medjool dates
Green vegan smoothie: Method
- In a blender pour the plant based milk (or other liquid). Add the vegetables and blend briefly.
- Add the bananas, peaches, almonds, dates, and blend until the consistency is smooth and creamy.
- Pour into a glass and serve immediately to take advantage of all its properties.
