Cape Mentelle

CAPE MENTELLE – AUSTRALIA

The company, named after two renowned French scientists, geographer Edmund and his cartographer brother Francois-Simon Mentelle, was founded in 1970 by David Hohnen and his brothers Mark and Giles.
Cape Mentelle is considered one of Margaret River’s “five founding wineries”. In the early years David Hohnen experimented with grape varieties including shiraz, cabernet, zinfandel, sauvignon blanc and semillon. Many of these original plants are still today the hallmark of the wines of the Australian winery. The winery’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon comes primarily from the original Wallcliffe Vineyard.
Today Cape Mentelle is part of Estates & Wines (owned by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) and is a solid reality not only in Australia.
